What are colour enhancers?

Colour enhancers are natural pigments (carotenoids) found in many plants and yeasts. They are deposited in special colour cells (chromatophores) in your koi's skin to give them their colouration. Although the distribution of colour cells is genetically determined, the intensity of their colours depends on a dietary supply of carotenoids. Koi foods usually contain ingredients that supply these carotenoids to your fish, e.g. Spirulina , shrimp meal, and various plants. All KoiExcellence foods contain colour enhancing ingredients to maintain and improve the appearance of your koi. KoiExcellence Performance is particularly rich in carotenoids, to rapidly optimise colouration.
